Church Services

Like other Christian Science churches, we hold two meetings each week. On a Sunday our weekly church service begins at 10:30am. The service is open to all and we regularly host visitors. Sunday services in Christian Science churches all have the same format across the world and consist of readings from the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, in addition to three hymns and a musical solo. The service is conducted by two lay readers (elected periodically from the membership) who also read the Christian Science Bible Lesson for that week. There are a range of topics for the Bible Lesson, and these rotate throughout the year.

On Wednesday evening we hold a Testimony Meeting at 7pm. The Testimony Meeting was established by the founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, as an opportunity for members of the congregation to share experiences illustrating how they have been inspired, helped or healed through Christian Science. The meeting begins with readings from the Bible and Science and Health, after which those present are invited to share any testimonies they may wish to relate. Nobody is obliged to share a testimony, and the meeting also provides an opportunity to sit in quiet contemplation between testimonies. Three hymns are also sung at different stages of the meeting. Again, anybody is welcome to attend Wednesday testimony meetings, and the church regularly welcomes visitors to these meetings (who sometimes also share a testimony, or at other times just sit and listen).
